Ministry of Reader

We are all involved through our attentiveness and presence at every part of Mass.  Some have particular liturgical roles.  One of these is the ministry of Reader.

The reader has a vital contribution to make to the celebration of Mass.  Catholics believe that Christ is present in his Word since it is he himself who speaks when the readings are proclaimed at Mass. This presumes readers are able and willing to communicate God’s Word.  This is an important act of service to the whole community.

The readers of Thurles Parish read on Sundays and weekdays, holydays of obligation and at other liturgical celebrations for example, the Annual Carol Service.

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers are called in a special way to serve the community in bringing to people Holy Communion.  They assist the celebrant of the Eucharist in the distribution of Holy Communion.

Our Parish Eucharistic Ministers participate at all Masses celebrated in the Parish and also they bring Holy Communion on Sundays to those who are sick or housebound.

Altar Servers

The Altar boys and girls serve at Sunday Masses, devotions, the Holy Week Ceremonies and other liturgical celebrations.  They are from 4th, 5th and 6th classes in primary school.  Every year there are practices for the new Altar Servers before they start serving at Mass.  Our Altar Servers fulfil a very important role in the Parish.

Eucharistic Adoration

The Blessed Sacrament Chapel in Thurles Cathedral has Eucharistic Adoration seven days a week – weekdays 11.30a.m. – 7.00p.m.  On Sundays 11.45 a.m. – 7.00p.m.  We would like to encourage everyone to come and visit the Eucharistic Lord whenever you have time.  We would ask people to sign the visitors book regardless of the time spent in adoration.
