Thurles Cathedral Choir, as the name suggests specialises in Sacred Music and mostly performs in the hallowed sanctuary of Thurles Cathedral, be it mostly form the newly refurbished organ gallery.  The Choir, as it is affectionately known dates back to before the Second World War and has been in continuous production ever since.
The Choir is divided into four parts, Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass, and continuously practices new pieces while rejuvenating pieces associated with its repertoire on a continual basis.
The current musical director of the Choir is the very well known national award winning musician Mary Rose McNally.  Our current conductor is Joan Butler, also a national award winning choir director and soloist soprano in her own right.  Performing a vast range of music including Handel,Bach, Mozart, Rutter and Schubert to name but a few, the Choir specialises in polyphonic arrangements of both classical and contemporary works.
Constant recruitment is an essential part of the work of keeping a choir together, and we are constantly seeking new members.
Choir practice, normally from September through May takes place on Tuesday nights from 8.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. in the organ gallery.  New members are most welcome at any time. To enquire please contact: Mary Rose. 087 7810771.
